About CRK Builders
Our Experience
Since 1997, CRK Builders, Inc. has been transforming homes around Wilmington, North Carolina, with expert craftsmanship and innovative design. As a full-service general contracting and remodeling company, we specialize in custom kitchen and bath renovations, as well as designing and building custom homes. Our commitment to excellence has made us a trusted name in the greater Wilmington area for high-quality, functional, and beautifully crafted spaces.
We service New Hanover, Pender, and occasionally Brunswick County. We are a “hands on” building company and we spend most of our day, not in the office but, at the job site. We can assure quality because we are present every day and touching the product every step along the way. This is why we keep a limited service area and limit the number of jobs being constructed at one time.
We have seen a lot along the way and enjoy the challenges of remodel projects. What scares off many new construction homebuilders simply excites us. We really shine in the area of creating new space out of old, solving structural issues and bringing the clients dreams to reality.
We are comprised of a distinct team of craftsmen and trade professionals. Our clients often describe their experience, working with us, as being similar to an episode of “This Old House.” Our team has been working together in unison for many years. Every time a trade partner shows up on the jobsite, it’s a friendly interaction creating a better end product for the client. No one person is trying to push off an issue onto someone else. We work as a team and the results speak for themselves.
As the team leader for our client’s projects, we believe the key to success is: Communicate, Communicate, and Communicate. No one likes wasted time or money and that is what results from lack of communication. We meet with our clients as often as needed to insure accuracy and understanding prior to signing the agreement and then we continue to meet with the clients as often as needed through out the project to insure accuracy of execution.

Our Designations & Credentials
At CRK Builders, we believe that continuing education and professional development are important parts of providing our clients with quality construction and remodeling services. Our team has earned multiple professional designations through the North Carolina Builders Institute, including Accredited Builder, Accredited Master Builder, and Accredited Remodeler. These designations reflect our commitment to ongoing education, industry knowledge, and professional standards in residential construction and remodeling.
Accredited Master Builder
The Accredited Master Builder designation represents an advanced level of professional education and achievement in residential building. Classes taken to achieve this designation are designed for experienced builders and taught by experts in their respective fields. We like to call this class our "masters degree" of the building industry. We one of the very few Master Builders in coastal North Carolina.
Accredited Builder
The Accredited Builder designation demonstrates education and professional development in residential building. This designation reflects our ongoing investment in the knowledge and skills needed to provide our clients with a high level of service and craftsmanship.
Accredited Remodeler
The Accredited Remodeler designation reflects our specialized focus on residential remodeling and our commitment to continuing education in the remodeling industry. Remodeling requires a different approach than new construction, including working within existing structures, coordinating numerous trades, and finding solutions to challenges that can arise during renovation.
Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist
We are also proud to have Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist™ (CAPS) credentials. This specialized training focuses on creating homes that are comfortable, functional, and adaptable to changing needs.

Education Beyond the Classroom
Our commitment to education doesn't stop with earning our own professional designations. Our owner, Rusty Kling, also teaches for the North Carolina Builders Institute, sharing his knowledge and experience with other professionals in the residential building industry. Being entrusted to educate other builders is a reflection of the experience and expertise we've developed over decades in the industry. That knowledge doesn't just stay in the classroom. We bring the same attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to professional standards to every project we build and remodel for our clients. For you, that means choosing a builder who is committed to continually learning, staying engaged with the industry, and putting that knowledge to work in your home.
